TAKS TEST: Measure Progress Instead |
By Kristin White, Just Click Editor
Educators are making the push to have TAKS test measure a student's progress instead of make the tests mandatory to pass. Currently students can be held back or kept from graduating if they do not pass parts of the test.
Already legislators have decided to replace high-school level TAKS with end-of-course exams.
It is believed that making progress on the test is a more important indicator to students and teachers, and it would take the pressure off students. Students, many have said, are in a constant state of worry and exhaustion. Some have even been sent to therapy because of stress related to the TAKS test.
Many educators say reducing the number of tests given will better align the accountability system with the No Child Left Behind Law, as well.
