Myanmar Allows US Aid, Finally |
By Kristin White, Just Click Editor
The US has finally been allowed to fly aid into Myanmar, today, May 12. The Myanmar government, however, is still keeping its doors closed to outside aid in the form of personnel. The UN is urging the government to let them in to help the victims, close to 2 million, who face disease and starvation.
The unarmed cargo plane, carrying 28,000 pounds in supplies, landed in Yangon, greeted by the government, military officers, and the top US Diplomat. The supplies were put into army trucks and would finally be put into helicopters, which would take the supplies to the worst hit area.
Two more shipments are scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday.
The official death toll is 28,458, and 33,416 are still missing. It is possible could reach 100,000, even higher.
Along with the UN, the US is also urging the Myanmar junta allow them to play a bigger part in helping the victims of the cyclone.
