Midwest/Southeast Tornado Kills 22, More Injured or Missing
By Kristin White, Just Click Editor
Over the weekend, powerful storms which included tornados, hit several states, killing 22 people in three separate states. 6 people were killed in Oklahoma, 15 in Missouri, and one in Georgia.
The tornado blew winds estimated up to 175 mph, sometimes a mile wide, and swept across 63 miles total from Oklahoma and Missouri. Five twisters in Oklahoma and two in Arkansas were spawned from this storm, as well.
Many people, whose homes were destroyed in the storm, have lost everything. All that is left of many houses is just the foundations or rubble strewn everywhere.
A state of emergency has been declared by the Oklahoma governor in Ottawa County, where the tornado struck. Six counties in Georgia have also been declared as being in a state of emergency, as well.
150 people were injured and many, many people are still missing.
President Bush also pledges federal support.
