Woodlands Children's Museum fundraiser

Anyone wanting to have fun and help the community can have their cake and eat it, too. On Sunday, May 18th, from 1-4 p.m., The Woodlands Children's Museum will be hosting a cake decorating competition as a sweet fundraiser.

For guests, admission is $40 for one parent and one child. Each additional child is $15. Everyone can participate in the activities, sample the cakes and vote for the "Children's Choice Award," which will be cast by ballot before the tasting.

Some of the hands-on activities will include cookie or cupcake decorating and demonstrations by Wunsche High School volunteers from the Culinary Arts program.

"One of the pro bakers suggested we call the high school and said they had an incredible program," said Director of Operations, Angela Colton. The high school agreed to share their experts in-the-making, in chef uniforms, no less.

The pro judges will include strong museum supporters, and they will give first and second place ribbons to those whose treats are most refined.

Colton said that anyone can enter, and it is free to compete, but they must register by May 13 by calling the museum at (281) 465-0955.

Cakes must be baked prior to the event, may have crumb coat applied and have icing ready for application. Cakes may have up to three tiers, with structural supports allowed, but everything else must be edible. An assistant may be used, and anything that requires overnight drying may be assembled before, but at least 75% of the decorating must be completed during the competition. The decorating theme is nature and spring time.
