19-Year-Old Elected Mayor |
By Kristin White, Just Click Editor
19-year-old John Tyler Hammons, a freshman at the University of Oklahoma, was elected mayor of Muskogee, Oklahoma on Tuesday, May 13. Muskogee has 38,000 people and is northeast Oklahoma.
Hammons won 57 percent of the vote over former Mayor Hershel Ray McBride, after the runoff election. Neither received 50 percent of the vote back in April, after a six-person election.
Hammons will be sworn in next week, and will be replacing Wren Stratton, who only served for one term. He still plans to continue his college education, but will transfer closer to Muskogee.
